MYRA MORTIMER, WHO WILL SING HERE, HAS REMARKABLE CAREER
Myra Mortimer, the American Iieder singer, who will appear in Sheboygan on Monday evening, November 14, at the high school auditorium under the auspices of the Sheboygan Music club, is a remarkable artist.
She trained in early youth as a pianist and expected to pursue that line of work as a career, but Fate or Destiny interfered and her course was suddenly turned. Owing to an accident to her hand, she passed the time studying singing on advice of a noted symphony conductor. The experiment proved hopeful and the young lady went to New York, plaxed herself under the guidance of Willem Van Giesen who took his charge as a member of his summer class to Holland. There the bud developed into a rose and since then she has won great favor in the leading countries of Europe by her masterful interpretation of the great song classics. By specializing in this class of vocal literature, adding French classics, English folksongs and songs by American composers, she became a figure in the musical world abroad and then America beckoned for an opportunity to hear this difficult art which an American girl had succeeded in perfecting.
The eminent Dutch pianist, Conraad V. Bos, will be accompanist for Mme. Mortimer. Mr. Bos is the pianist who so ably assisted Frieds Hempel during her Jenny Lind recital at the high school here several seasons ago. Those who heard this celebrated artist will remember his beautiful accompaniments as well as his solo selections. The Music club has arranged for him to play a group of special piano numbers as part of the program.
Reserved seats for this recital will be on sale Wednesday, October 26, at Buchheims Music store.
