1.  JOHN1 TILLOTSON was born June 29, 1618 in Halifax, Yorkshire, England, and died Abt 1685 in Saybrook (Lyme Township), New London, CT.  He married (1) UNKNOWN.  He married (2) DORCAS COLEMAN July 14, 1648 in Newbury, ,MA.  He married (3) JANE EVANS May 24, 1655.

At age 16 John set sail on the ship "James" from Southampton, and arrived in Boston in June, 1635. 

One of the original settlers and property owners in Rowley, MA. The town record of the original allotment states "John Tillotson a lot of one acre and a half on south side of Thomas Burkley's lot."

 

Moved to Newbury, MA and then in 1660 to Saybrook, CT.

"Thomas Hale, of Newbury, 4 April 1655, bought of John Tillotson , of Newbury, house and messuage, about 13 a. of upland and 10 a. of "Divident" and 5 a. of salt marsh, all in Newbury."

Apparently, John's sons did not get along with their stepmother.  The following is from his will:

 

In the name of God, amen: the 17th day of January 1711/12, I, John Tillotson of Saybrook, county of New London, Connecticut though being sick and weak in body but perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, and calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that death is appointed for all men once due to dye, do make and ordain this my last will and testament revoaking all others; that is to say, principally: I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of God and give it and my body I recommend to the earth in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executrix and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, devise, and dispose as followeth;

 

I give and bequeath to my loving wife Ruth Tillotson all the estate both in gooeds and money which I had with her with all the provisions in the house and for the family, viz: corn, pork, beef, yarn, woolen, cotton, and linen cloth, all of the household goods which I have ought since that time I married her: together with the great iron pot, hooks and great trammel, and one three year old heifer at time and one bedstead and one piece of stuff which I bought for her, with my small pair of stilliards, with my looms and all my geires belonging to it, together with all my money and debts due to me with my mare, saddle and tackling belonging to her all which to be hers and at the disposal forever with my boat and small cart.

 

I give and bequeath to my said loving wife my now dwelling house and the land adjoining during her actual life and my great jug and long tables during her aboad in the said house: with my great kettles and the use of it.

 

To my son Morris Tillotson I give and bequeath besides what he hath received of me by deed of gift, three books, viz: Mr. Rogers, his book; Mr. Smith's book; Mr. Hooker's book with half my wearing apparel.

 

To my two daughters Mary and Martha Tillotson, I give and bequeath all the rest of my household goods not before disposed of, to be equally divided between them provided that each of them pay to my executrix, their mother Ruth Tillotson one pound five pence apiece in or as money.

 

To my son Thomas Tillotson, I give all my shoemaker's tools, currying tools and husbandry tools and all my leather in the house and the tan vats and the hides together with my gun and sword provided that my said son Thomas do come to Saybrook and dwell with his mother and be helpful in assisting her in the management of her affairs in order to her comfortable livelihood but upon his refusal to come and abide with his mother in Saybrook as above said ...(rest of sentence unreadable).

 

To my son Ebenezer, if he exists to be of age I give and bequeath to him at my wishes aft my wife's decease my now dwelling house and the land adjoining and upon his decease before he come of age then it to belong to my son Morris.

 

To my two sons Joshua and Joseph Tillotson, for their undutiful carriage, actings and behaviours unto me, I see just cause leave and bequeath unto them no more but five shillings in money besides what they have had and received.

 

Lastly, I order, constitute and appoint my loving wife Ruth Tillotson to be my sole executrix of this will and testament ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day and year in the other side written. Signed, sealed, published announced and declared by the said John Tillotson, as last will and testament in the presence of us, the subscribers John Kirkland, Daniell Taylor, July 28, 1719.

19.  CALISTA6 TILLOTSON (JOHN5, JOHN4, JOSEPH3, JOHN2, JOHN1) was born February 21, 1805 in Genoa, NY, and died 1882 in Danby, NY.  She married WILLIAM BRYAN.

 

        Children of Calista Tillotson and William Bryan are:

                  ii.    WILLIAM JUDSON BRYAN.

                 iii.    CORNELIA A. BRYAN.

 

10.  SOPHIA6 TILLOTSON (ELIAS5, JOHN4, JOSEPH3, JOHN2, JOHN1) was born December 09, 1799 in Farmington, Hartford, CT, and died July 05, 1881 in West Bloonfield, Ontario, NY.  She married ARDEN WOODRUFF.
